"I recieved my plate today and I am amazed at the quality ! I thought you were just sending me a paper sample and not an actual plate I can draw from!"

You can’t truly appreciate what it’s like to draw from a genuine Bargue plate until you’ve experienced one yourself.

Why are we offering this?

For more than 20 years, art students have learned to draw from bad reproductions
of the Charles Bargue Drawing Course.

Photocopies. Scans. Digital prints.

Unfortunately, with bad copies valuable information is lost:

  • Delicate halftones disappear.
  • Edges become softer.
  • Subtle values disappear.
  • Details are simplified

Yet these are precisely the qualities that make the Bargue Course
such an extraordinary drawing teacher

We wanted to change that.

After more than 4 years of research, we recreated the Charles Bargue Drawing Course using the same printing technique employed in the nineteenth century:

Lithography

Original size Bargue plate
Original printing process

For the first time since 1887, students can once again study from plates comparable to those used in the 19th century academic ateliers.

You simply have to see it with your own eyes.

What will you receive?

  • A genuine lithographic Bargue plate
  • Printed on the same premium paper as our complete editions
  • Produced from the same lithographic stones
  • Ready to draw from

The price of a plate of this size (12 × 16 inches) is $67.

We offer the plate itself.
You simply cover the shipping and handling costs.

Why this particular plate?

The Charles Bargue Drawing Course contains 197 plates.

Many, from the part I, include both a finished drawing and one or more block-in stages.

For this sample edition, we removed the block-in construction so the plate focuses entirely on the finished drawing.

The foot itself is reproduced at exactly the same size as on the original full-size Bargue plate, allowing you to experience the same drawing model used in nineteenth-century ateliers.

Bargue Encore is the only edition that allows artists to experience the
Charles Bargue Drawing Course as it was originally intended.

We believe the quality will speak for itself.
